He fights with his ex-wife Marilyn (Winger) over his undependability, helps his best friend Monroe (Paul Le Mat) paint a house, and generally tries to get through his life with some semblance of purpose. Spousal support is determined on a case to case basis. The judge decides whether such support is necessary and the amount of the alimony as well. The alimony can be granted on a permanent or temporary basis depending on the financial standing of the spouses.
